Wauchula, Florida -- Finding a job is a tough task for thousands of Floridians. So when word a new company was coming to a small Bay area town, people had hope.

Rural Hardee County gave the company millions of dollars, but as the 10 News Investigators discovered, a group of powerful politicians without any company or product already had their own plans for that money.

Sebring, Florida -- The Highlands County Board of County Commissioners has announced it is seeking applications for membership on the Construction Licensing, Enforcement and Appeals Board (CLEAB).  

The CLEAB consist of seven regular members and two alternates. The Board says it will consider interested applicants from the following disciplines: contractors licensed pursuant to FS 489, locally licensed specialty contractors, the building industry, and the public at large.

Tampa Bay, Florida -- Although the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) increased its operating budget by $4.5 million for the coming fiscal year, property owners will not pay a higher tax to the state agency responsible for flood control and surface and groundwater quality in the Tampa Bay area.

Tuesday night the Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing Board approved the 2012-13 fiscal year budget and millage (or tax) rate. The fiscal year starts Monday, Oct. 1.

Hernando County, Florida-- The deadline to register to vote or to change your party affiliation for the August 14 primary was today at 5 p.m. 

Those of you who did not register by 5 p.m. today will not be eligible to vote in the upcoming primary election. 

Residents who are currently registered to vote, but need to make updates to their address information may visit www.hernandovotes.com and access the "Change Your Address" link under the "Voting Information", or call 352-754-4125 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

County votes to reduce meetings

County votes to reduce meetings

Sebring, Florida -- During a meeting Tuesday, April 3, Highlands County commissioners unanimously voted to reduce the number of meetings each month from four to three.

Newssun.com reports it was a lengthy discussion that began with Commissioner Ron Handley commenting on how out of all of the 67 counties in the state, Highlands is the only one that meets every week each month.

Discussion then turned to logistics of how the meetings would be constructed and the length and time of future meetings.
