AVON PARK, Fla.- South Florida Community College will officially be renamed South Florida State College, beginning July 1.
The new name comes with the approval from the accrediting board Thursday to begin offering four-year degrees.
"This is a major milestone," said college president Dr. Norm Stephens. "We're everything we've always been, and now more."
South Florida State College will soon begin offering a Bachelors of Applied Science program in Supervision and Management. The program will help students studying in various career fields to more easily jump into higher paying management jobs.
The college is also looking into the possibility of offering Bachelor of Science degrees in nursing and elementary education.
"This is a great day for our college community and for all the future students who will most certainly benefit from this educational opportunity," said Dr. Stephens.
