Body of teen found floating in Lake June identified

LAKE PLACID, Florida -- Highlands County Sheriff's detectives have identified the body of the young man who was found in Lake June in the vicinity of the Lake June ball fields last Sunday.

The body has been identified as 19-year-old Joshua Levy Holland. Deputies say Holland was believed to be homeless, however, does have family in the area. A wallet was found this week by Detective Sergeant Brian Kramer in the lake near where the body was discovered. Detectives used information within the wallet along with dental records to make a positive identification.

McDonald's offers free breakfast for dads this Father's Day

McDonald’s thinks a delicious morning entrée will be the perfect Father’s Day gift, so they're inviting local fathers to enjoy and celebrate their day of honor on June 16, 2013, during their breakfast service hours.

From 5:30-10:30 a.m., fathers can head to any of the 191 McDonald’s locations across the Tampa Bay area for a free meal. Restaurant reps say no purchase is required, but fathers must be accompanied by a child, and there is a limit of one free offer per customer.

Last year, over 8,800 local fathers celebrated their morning with a complimentary meal.

Sheriff's deputies investigate drowning of 1-year-old in Avon Park

AVON PARK, Florida- A one-year-old child from Avon Park has died after apparently drowning in a pool at the family home.

Sheriff's Investigators say the incident happened around 6:30 Sunday afternoon. Emergency crews were called to the home on North Riverdale Road in Avon Park and found the toddler unresponsive after falling in the pool.

Deputies began CPR after arriving on scene before handing the child over to EMS. The child was transported to Florida Hospital Heartland however Emergency Room personnel were unable to resuscitate the child.

Over 40 cats & dogs seized from Sebring home

Sebring, Florida-- Deputies arrested a woman on animal cruelty charges Saturday after finding 45 "malnourished and dirty" cats and dogs in her home, Highlands County Sheriff's officials said Monday. 

According to their report, a "foul odor" complaint lead deputies to the home, located on the 4300 block of Lakewood Road. Inside, they found crates full of dogs and cats living in "deplorable" conditions.
