Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.

Sebring, Florida -- The city of Sebring will hold a Sidewalk Gargage Sale and Farmer's Market.

It will be held on Saturday, April 20 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will take place on the sidewalks of Downtown Sebring. 

Also the Happy Owl, a party and art supply store, is under new management and is having an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday as well.

The Happy Owl is located at 227 North Ridgewood.

Highlands Sheriff's deputies win shootout benefiting Youth Ranch

Okeechobee, Florida -- Two members of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office walked away with the overall title in the Seacoast National Bank Sheriff's Shootout at Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee.

Lt. John Barcinas and Detective Sgt. Brian Kramer went home with a check for $2,000 to be donated to the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranch in the name of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting competition included teams representing Highlands, DeSoto, Glades, Hendry, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie County Sheriff's Offices.

Wauchula, Florida -- For the third year in a row, Peace River Electric Cooperative (PRECO) registered more than 800 individuals at its Annual Membership Meeting.

On Saturday, March 9, the cooperative received 850 members, plus their families, at the 73rd annual event in Wauchula, Florida. In less than 10 years, member attendance has swelled from around 600 to well over 800.

Local schools succeed at 2013 ProStart Culinary Team Competition

Tampa Bay, Florida-- Congratulations are in order for students of Tarpon Springs High School, Leto High School and Avon Park High School as teams from each stood out among 55 Florida schools at the 13th Annual ProStart Culinary Team Competition last week in Orlando.

Teams from schools across the state were judged on their preparation of a gourmet meal, their ability to create a business proposal for a new restaurant, their creative design of an edible centerpiece and their finishing touches during an event called "the waiter’s relay race."
