TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Department of Education released Monday its numerical ranking of the state's 67 school districts, one of the first in the country.

The numerical ranking is based on each school's total points derived from FCAT scores. The total is the sum of scores for reading, math, science and writing; learning gains in reading and math; and scores for learning gains in reading and math among the lowest 25 percent of students in each school.

Lake Placid, FL -- The Town of Lake Placid will hold its election on April 3 to fill two seats on the Town Council.

Any elector of the town can run for the council, however, you must have been registered to vote in town elections 6 months immediately preceding the date of taking office, in this case Oct. 3, 2011, and must be a resident of the Town of Lake Placid.

The qualifying period will be between noon on Feb. 13 and noon on Feb. 17.

Avon Park, FL -- Grammy Award winner and country music superstar Travis Tritt will perform a solo acoustic set Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m., in the South Florida Community College Theatre for the Performing Arts, Highlands Campus.

The acoustic set is an approach he takes fewer than 30 times a year. The intimate setup exudes a unique vibe.

"It doesn't feel like a concert venue at all. It feels like my living room," the country music singer said in a recent phone interview.
