Okeechobee, Florida -- Two members of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office walked away with the overall title in the Seacoast National Bank Sheriff's Shootout at Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee.

Lt. John Barcinas and Detective Sgt. Brian Kramer went home with a check for $2,000 to be donated to the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranch in the name of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting competition included teams representing Highlands, DeSoto, Glades, Hendry, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie County Sheriff's Offices. 

Lake Placid, Florida -- A 33-year-old Lake Placid man was killed late Sunday night after troopers say he crashed into a trailer parked off a roadway near Henscratch Farms.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports Brandon Christian was heading north on Henscratch Road near Dawg House Drive when, for some unknown reason, his Jeep Cherokee drifted into the southbound lane and onto the west shoulder.

As he drifted onto the shoulder, he rear-ended an empty trailer parked about 4 feet off the roadway.

Highlands County, Florida -- For those who want to learn more about nature, visit the Francis Archbold Huffy Learning Center. 

On Tuesday, April 9, guided tours will gather at the learning center and hike through the scrub landscape on the Discovery Loop, Exlplorer's Loop and Scrub Lookout Loop. 

The tour starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m. 

The Archbold Biological Station is located at 123 Main Drive, Venus, Florida.
