Volunteers needed at Highlands Hammock State Park

Highlands County, Florida-- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Ridge Rangers Program and Highlands Hammock State Park are looking for volunteers to help restore scrub jay habitat at the park on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27. Volunteers can sign up for one or both days.

Conference focuses on housing choices

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Tampa Bay Fair Housing Consortium will present Housing Choices, Free of Discrimination on Friday, April 19.

Check-in is at 8 a.m. The program runs from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The day-long conference will be held at the Centre Club, 123 S. West Shore Blvd. in Tampa.

Over 70 trailers stolen, sold in scrap metal scheme

Polk County, Florida-- Three men have been linked to over 70 citrus trailer thefts that occurred all over Polk County between 2010 and 2013. 

According to Polk County Sheriff's officials, brothers Ruben and Richard Ramirez, 39 and 31-years-old, worked alongside 60-year-old Donald Mosley to steal the trailers from various citrus packing houses, and then sell the metal to scrap dealers in Polk, Hillsborough and Hardee Counties.
