Power lines cause 10-acre wildfire in Highlands County

Highlands County, Florida-- The Florida Forest Service urges drivers to stear clear of County Road 635 because of a fire inside Highlands Hammock State Park. 

The fire, caused by a power line, has resulted in a lot of smoke, which in turn causes unsafe driving conditions for motorists. 

They say the fire spread 10 acres, but is now 100 percent contained. 

Residents in the area of Wood Avenue can expect to see smoldering debris in the woods as crews continue to monitor and mop up the area.

Traffic: 1 SB lane on U.S. 27 reopens, NB lanes still closed

Sebring, Florida -- The Highlands County Sheriff's Office has reopened one southbound lane on U.S. 27 at Hammock Road in Sebring, however, all northbound lanes are still closed due to two crashes.

10 News will continue to update these crashes as soon as information becomes available.

Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.
